Abstract

In this study, an experimental setup for hydraulic pump tests was designed and built. The mechanical power, hydraulic power, mechanical losses, electrical losses, volumetric losses and energy, isentropic and volumetric efficiencies of the hydraulic pump using nano fluid (HO + CuO) obtained by adding 0.1% CuO nano particles into HO with the hydraulic pump using hydraulic oil (HO) as the working fluid were compared experimentally. In the experiments, electricity consumption (kWh) and volume flow rate (lt/min) were measured for four different pressure drops such as 80 bar, 100 bar, 120 bar and 140 bar. As a result, the addition of nanoparticles increased electricity consumption from 5% to 14%, energy efficiency by about 4%, volumetric efficiency from 4% to 19% and isentropic efficiency from 4% to 20%. In addition, the addition of nanoparticles reduced volumetric losses from 68% to 172% and mechanical losses from 20% to 50%, while increasing electrical losses by 2% to 10%.
